This very site you’re browsing was crafted as both an homage to classic operating systems and a fully functional portfolio. It uses 98.css for the Windows 95/98 look, with a small window manager written in vanilla JavaScript.
The desktop metaphor lets visitors open different “applications” like projects, art and writing, each in its own draggable window. Every window also has its own URL, so any page can be linked and shared.
What I learned
- Building a window manager from scratch: focus, stacking, minimise and maximise.
- Making a deliberately retro interface work on phones and with a keyboard.
